Mid-to-late September, we hold our annual Family Camp. Our first Family Camp was held in 1974. We hold Family Camp at Alpine Camp in Mentone, AL, atop Lookout Mountain. Campers stay in screened, open-air cabins which sleep 5-10 each and usually share a cabin with another family or two. Everyone also shares central bath houses with showers, toilets, and sinks. An open-air gymnasium, atheletic field, tennis courts, and sand volleyball courts are all available for games and recreation. Family-style meals are served in the open-air, Adirondack dining hall and campers generally eat Friday dinner through Sunday breakfast that weekend.
We enjoy times of fellowship and worship along with a variety of other games and activities. Often we coordinate a performer to come and lead the activities or worship. In 2011, we had Danny Ray, an illusionist and former youth pastor, and in 2010 & 2009 we had Allen Levi, a singer-songwriter. This is our most popular event of the year and is always filled to bursting! Keep an eye out for registration so you don’t miss your chance to be part of the fun! World Missions Conference
Our World Missions Conference is held one weekend in the early to late spring. It kicks off Friday with Family Night. We have a large dinner, similar to our regular Wednesday night fellowship dinners. Afterward, we invite you and your children to take a journey around the world: meet our missionaries, try new food, experience other cultures, learn new games and much more. Saturday night we hold our annual Missions Banquet with an elegant meal served in our fellowship hall and featuring our guest missions speaker. Sunday morning, our missions speaker preaches in all our morning services and that evening we have the Children’s Banquet. We frequently have our guest speaker talk during our evening service and have a missions prayer time immediately following.
We routinely have one other large conference during the year on subjects such as marriage, intimacy, or parenting. Speakers we’ve booked include Dr. Jim Coffield, Associate Professor of Counseling at RTS, and Paul Tripp, President of Paul Tripp Ministries. Smaller talks & luncheons with similar speakers are also frequently held — keep an eye out!
Very Important Persons (VIP) Events
The Very Important Persons (VIPs) are a group of mostly-retired folks from Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church and Church Of The Good Shepherd, Episcopal who love fellowship and love our Lord. Our VIPs get together once a month (except for August) for a meal and activity. In the past, we had bingo, movie night, speakers and even attended symphonies and concerts in the community.
