Meals with Jesus in Luke

The Son of Man Came Eating and Drinking with Sinners

Carolyn Steel in Hungry City writes, “Few acts are more expressive of companionship than the shared meal…someone with whom we share food is likely to be our friend, or well on the way to becoming one.” Throughout history, the table has been the epicenter for relational life. When Jesus came to seek and save the lost, he came to eat and drink with sinners. As Tim Chester notes in Meals with Jesus, “Jesus’ mission strategy was a long meal.” We hope that as we travel from meal to meal with Jesus in Luke’s gospel, we will grow in wonder that he seats sinners at his table, and be spurred on to spread a welcoming feast for others in his name so that we might enjoy the Savior together.
