Year-end giving to both the RENEW campaign and the annual budget provides an opportunity for prayerful reflection upon stewarding our resources. Our RENEW campaign began two years ago this month with a vision to restore our place, revive our people, and release our resources. We are well into our exterior renovations, with plans to get the interior renovations underway in the spring. And our newest update video just shown this past Sunday highlighted several couples in our congregation who are looking forward to all the ways RENEW will expand our ministry.
Each year, the PCA Foundation publishes a short devotional on the topic of stewardship/generosity/giving. This year’s five-day devotional explores five instances in the Gospels when the followers of Jesus gave generously to their Savior. It calls us to contemplate both the gifts and the givers. What does it mean to be generous towards Jesus, in light of his “inexhaustible generosity” towards us?
In his letter of introduction, Tim Townsend, president of the PCA Foundation, reminds us that God chooses to involve us in his work. He challenges us to look into the Scriptures to understand God’s design for generosity.
In Matthew 2, we meet the Magi, diplomatic envoys following a star like a GPS and bringing gifts to honor a king. How is their visit a sneak preview of things to come?
Mark 14 introduces an anonymous woman who is criticized for her extravagance. Explore three lessons we can learn from her gift.
Luke 8 reveals some generous women who are “essential workers” for advancing the Kingdom. What is their motivation?
The owner of the colt in Luke 19 is a model of a trustee of valuable assets. When the Master requests something of us, how should we respond?
In Matthew 27, Joseph of Arimathea uses social capital to honor his Lord. Explore the relative value of temporal material wealth versus eternal spiritual assets.
The author of this resource, PCA teaching elder Andy Jones, shares his prayer for those who engage with this devotional: “I pray your faith is strengthened and your generosity increased as you contemplate the gifts given to our King!”
It’s a good time of year to think about giving, so why not take advantage of this free resource?
Access an electronic copy of this free resource here. There are also a limited number of print copies available at the church.
The mission of the PCA Foundation is to provide charitable financial services to Christians, enabling them to carry out their stewardship responsibilities and charitable desires to financially support the Kingdom of Jesus Christ through the Presbyterian Church in America and other Christian ministries.
