Matthew: The King’s Justice and Mercy
Matthew 24-28
King Jesus soberly and severely warns of his return which will bring judgment on those who are presumptuous, asleep, and unprepared. Yet, the perfect servant Son who warns of coming judgment mercifully marches to Jerusalem to suffer the Father’s wrath for the sins of his people. In Jesus Christ, justice and mercy kiss. Never has there been one who lived more fully awake and alert to faithfulness than Jesus. And yet the faithful steward Son, Jesus, suffers the darkest judgment that we might receive the most extravagant mercy. Hearing his warnings of judgment in the context of the passion, cross, and resurrection awakens and alerts us to mercy so that faithful stewardship and vigilant watchfulness permeate from our lives until he returns.
