Our New Pastor of Congregational Care

We are thrilled to welcome John Mark Scruggs as our new pastor of congregational care!

His role is a new position. John Mark joins our pastoral team and shares in those same responsibilities that all our pastors have. He will be preaching, teaching, counseling, leading worship, and performing other regular pastoral duties such as visitation, baptisms, weddings, and funerals. Specific to his role, John Mark will primarily oversee the congregational care ministry and LMPC support groups.

We will hold an installation service for John Mark on Sunday, August 13 at 6:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

John Mark was born and raised in Tupelo, MS. He graduated in 2008 from the University of Mississippi, where he was greatly impacted by the ministry of RUF. After graduation, he served as an intern at Lawndale Presbyterian Church, where he felt both encouraged and called to pursue full-time ministry. John Mark earned his MDiv from Covenant Seminary in 2013. It was in St. Louis that he met and married Caroline, who was also attending Covenant.

In May of 2014, they moved to Chattanooga, where John Mark has served as the RUF Campus Minister at UTC for the past nine years. He is also currently pursuing his MA in Counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary. John Mark and Caroline, and their kids – Mary Margaret, Jack, and Sam – joined us at LMPC in January of 2020, and are excited and thankful to continue to be a part of and to serve this church.

Good to know, as I didn’t realize you’d transitioned from RUF. I know LMPC will be so glad to have you!!
